Destination Guide

Indonesia offers hospitality opportunities across Jakarta, Bali, Lombok, Batam, Java and other island destinations. Luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, villas, spas and tourism businesses regularly recruit experienced managers, guest-service professionals, chefs and operational staff. Jakarta provides corporate-hotel careers and urban conveniences, while Bali and Lombok offer a more resort-focused lifestyle, beaches and a large international community. Indonesian culture values respect, hospitality, family, religious diversity and polite communication; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali resort areas and central Jakarta generally more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay permit, commonly arranged through the company before employment begins. Candidates should confirm visa rules, contract terms, housing, insurance, tax treatment and service-charge arrangements directly with Shangri-La. Indonesia has a tropical climate, varied transport options and excellent food, but newcomers should plan for traffic, humidity and regional differences.
