Destination Guide

Penang is a Malaysian island and a popular place to live and work, especially in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, healthcare, education, technology, and manufacturing. Its culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, and colonial influences, reflected in festivals, temples, mosques, heritage buildings, and famous street food. Batu Ferringhi offers a resort-focused lifestyle with beaches, restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere, while George Town provides stronger access to shopping, healthcare, schools, and cultural attractions. Living costs are generally lower than Kuala Lumpur, although beachfront housing can be more expensive. Foreign professionals normally require an employment pass sponsored by the employer; approval depends on qualifications, salary, and Malaysian immigration rules. Employers commonly assist with the application and relocation arrangements. Candidates should confirm accommodation, medical coverage, dependent visas, tax obligations, and contract benefits before moving.
