Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and international business. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, and daily life is fast-paced, convenient and diverse. Residents enjoy excellent public transport, extensive shopping and dining, lively neighbourhoods, beaches, hiking trails and nearby islands such as Lantau and Cheung Chau. Accommodation can be expensive, particularly in central districts, so many workers share apartments or live farther from work. Overseas employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their Hong Kong employer before starting work; eligibility depends on qualifications, experience, salary and the role’s business need. Employers may assist with the application, but requirements should be confirmed with Hong Kong Immigration. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in international hotels and workplaces.
