Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation, marketing and communications. The city combines Chinese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and professional settings. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive dining, shopping, cultural attractions, hiking trails and nearby beaches. Housing can be expensive, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central districts, so many employees consider Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer and must provide suitable qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, healthcare, transport and daily expenses, and should check current Immigration Department requirements before relocating. Hong Kong is compact, international and well connected to mainland China and destinations throughout Asia.
