Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, shared services, and supply-chain operations. Langkawi, Penang, Sabah, and Sarawak are popular for hospitality careers, while Kuala Lumpur and Johor provide broader corporate employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, although Malay is the national language. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many major Asian cities, and island locations offer beaches, diving, outdoor activities, and a relaxed pace, though public transport and housing can be more limited. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled through Malaysian immigration authorities; working before approval is not permitted. Relocating employees should verify salary, accommodation, healthcare, taxes, probation, and flight benefits, and prepare certified qualifications and a valid passport. Local weather is hot and humid year-round, with heavier rain during monsoon periods.
