Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, engineering, construction, technology and business services. Bali is the most internationally oriented island for resort work, while Java—especially Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya—has more corporate and city-hotel roles. Lombok and other eastern islands provide growing opportunities in destination resorts but may have fewer services and transport links. Indonesian culture values courtesy, hospitality, family and respect for religious traditions; workplaces are generally collaborative and relationship-focused. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to quieter beach communities, with tropical weather, affordable local food and varied housing costs. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work authorization process and a work-limited KITAS or related residence permit. Do not work on a tourist visa. Confirm accommodation, insurance, taxes, relocation support and permit responsibilities with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
