Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, aviation, retail, technology and finance. Hotel employees can expect a multicultural workplace, efficient public transport and a fast-paced but highly organised lifestyle. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also common. Housing is generally expensive, although public transport is affordable and reliable; many newcomers share apartments or live farther from the city centre. Singapore has tropical weather, excellent food, modern healthcare and a safe urban environment, but strict laws and high daily costs should be considered. Foreign candidates normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to eligibility, salary requirements and government approval. Secure a written offer before relocating and check current rules with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower.
