Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural island city with strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare and retail. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also common. Life is safe, efficient and well connected through public transport, although accommodation and dining can be expensive. Popular areas include Orchard, Marina Bay, Sentosa and the East Coast. Hospitality employees should expect professional service standards, shift work and a fast-paced environment. Foreign applicants generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government requirements. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application process. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, deposits and healthcare, and confirm housing, benefits and relocation support before accepting an offer.
