Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities on islands and coastal destinations including Penang, Langkawi, Pangkor, Tioman, Redang, Perhentian and parts of Sabah. Resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving operators and tourism companies regularly recruit in front office, food and beverage, housekeeping, engineering, sales and human resources. Local culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, with strong religious and community traditions. Lifestyle ranges from lively Penang city life to quieter beach-resort living; costs are generally lower than in many major international destinations, although island housing can be limited and seasonal. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit or Employment Pass before starting work, and the employer usually manages the application. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, tax and permit arrangements before relocating. English is widely used in tourism, while Malay is the national language.
