Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination combining modern business districts, dense urban neighbourhoods, beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Job opportunities are strongest in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology, logistics, healthcare and education. Cantonese is widely used, while English is common in hotels, offices and international businesses; Mandarin is also useful. The lifestyle is fast-paced, convenient and relatively expensive, especially for housing. Public transport is excellent, with the MTR, buses, ferries and minibuses connecting most areas. Popular residential choices include Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories, depending on budget and commute. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa before starting work; part-time roles are usually more suitable for Hong Kong residents or people with existing work rights. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, transport and healthcare.
