Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism and luxury retail, with experienced chefs often able to progress through international hospitality groups. The culture is fast-paced, diverse and influenced by Cantonese, British and wider Asian traditions. Employees enjoy excellent public transport, busy dining and shopping districts, hiking trails, beaches and a vibrant nightlife, although housing and everyday costs can be high. Hong Kong uses the Hong Kong dollar and Cantonese is widely spoken; English is common in hospitality and business. Foreign professionals generally need an appropriate employment visa, normally sponsored by the employer, with proof of qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Applicants should arrange accommodation, medical insurance, banking and document verification before arrival. Staff housing or meal allowances may sometimes be available, but these should be confirmed directly with the employer.
