Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, events and tourism businesses. Langkawi, Penang and Sabah provide island or coastal lifestyles, while Kuala Lumpur offers broader career options and better public transport. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is commonly used in hotels. Living costs vary: Kuala Lumpur is generally more expensive than regional resort areas, though island locations may have fewer services and seasonal work patterns. Employees can enjoy beaches, rainforest, diving, local food and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle. Malaysian citizens do not need a work visa. Foreign candidates normally require employer sponsorship and an approved Employment Pass before starting work; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and immigration rules. Applicants should confirm housing, transport, medical coverage and visa support directly with Shangri-La.
