Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities in hotel engineering, facilities management, construction, tourism, and resort operations, especially in Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam, and the Riau Islands. Bali is the most international destination, with a relaxed lifestyle, strong expatriate community, Hindu traditions, beaches, and active tourism, although housing and traffic can be costly. Jakarta and Java provide broader technical and corporate opportunities, faster-paced city living, and easier access to hospitals and services. Lombok and other resort islands offer a quieter environment but fewer specialist facilities. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, modesty, and respect for religious customs; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Foreign employees generally require employer sponsorship, an appropriate work permit, and a limited-stay visa, with requirements varying by role and nationality. Confirm documentation with Shangri-La and Indonesian authorities before travel. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, health insurance, transport, banking, taxation, and emergency contacts.
