Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, event venues, restaurants and tourism businesses, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in hospitality. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, although central Kuala Lumpur and resort islands can be more expensive. Malaysia has tropical weather, excellent food, beaches, rainforests and strong regional air connections. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and should not begin work until approval is granted. Employers commonly assist with immigration paperwork, medical checks and relocation arrangements. Candidates should confirm accommodation, service charge, insurance, leave, working hours and renewal conditions before accepting an offer. Penang, Langkawi and Sabah suit island or resort living, while Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career and transport options.
