Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural island city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, retail, technology and finance. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The lifestyle is safe, clean and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, parks and vibrant cultural districts. Accommodation can be expensive, so many employees share apartments or live farther from the city centre. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, with eligibility depending on salary, qualifications and occupation. The employer usually submits the application. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, deposits, healthcare and daily expenses, and confirm accommodation, working hours, meals, leave and benefits before relocating. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
