Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a highly international city with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, finance, technology, retail and professional services. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient urban living and a strong food scene. The lifestyle is fast-paced, well connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive dining and shopping, hiking trails, beaches and nearby islands. Housing can be expensive, so candidates should clarify accommodation, housing allowance, medical cover, bonuses and relocation support before accepting an offer. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by the employer, commonly under the General Employment Policy, and must show suitable qualifications, experience and a confirmed job. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange a Hong Kong identity card, bank account, tax registration and suitable health insurance. Cantonese is useful socially, while English is widely used in hotels and business.
