Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, security, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. The culture blends traditional Chinese values with international influences, and Cantonese is widely spoken while English is common in business and hotels. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and beaches. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share apartments or live in districts outside Central and Kowloon. Foreign workers generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; the employer normally sponsors the application and must demonstrate that the role and salary meet immigration requirements. Applicants should prepare qualifications, references, health and identity documents. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate, busy working patterns and a fast-paced lifestyle. New arrivals should budget carefully, understand employment conditions and confirm accommodation, medical coverage and visa responsibilities with the employer.
