Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong employment opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, finance, retail, technology and education. Hospitality roles are concentrated in areas such as Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau and the New Territories. The culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, varied food, shopping, beaches and hiking. Housing can be expensive, especially near central districts, so many workers live farther out or share accommodation. Foreign employees generally need an appropriate employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer, while dependants may require separate visas. Applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, insurance and visa support directly with the hotel. New arrivals should prepare copies of qualifications, certifications, references and identity documents.
