Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, aviation, restaurants, retail, finance and technology. Its multicultural society blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in its food, festivals and languages. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and urban, with excellent public transport, shopping, beaches, parks and a wide range of dining options. Housing can be expensive, especially near central areas, so many employees share accommodation or live outside the city centre. Foreign nationals generally need an approved work pass before starting employment; the employer usually supports the application, with eligibility depending on salary, qualifications and experience. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, healthcare and daily expenses, and confirm accommodation and pass arrangements before relocating. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rain.
