Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, aviation, retail, finance, technology and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare and abundant shopping and dining options. Housing can be expensive, especially in central areas, although shared accommodation and suburban districts may reduce costs. Singapore has a tropical climate with year-round heat, humidity and frequent rain. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; approval is handled through the Ministry of Manpower. Before relocating, confirm the pass type, accommodation, medical requirements and employment terms. Public holidays and shift work are common in hospitality roles.
