Destination Guide

Singapore is a modern island city-state with excellent public transport, reliable healthcare and a multicultural population shaped by Chinese, Malay, Indian and international communities. Hospitality is a major source of employment, with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts, catering, casinos and tourism services. Kitchen and stewarding roles are commonly available, although work can involve long shifts, heat, repetitive tasks and weekend or public-holiday duties. Rent can be expensive, so many workers share accommodation or live farther from the city centre; buses and trains make commuting straightforward. English is widely used at work, while knowledge of Mandarin or other languages can be helpful. Foreign employees normally need employer-sponsored permission, such as an eligible Work Permit or S Pass, before starting work. Approval depends on nationality, salary, qualifications and sector rules. Confirm visa sponsorship, accommodation and contract terms before relocating.
