Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, technology and finance. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient, safe and well connected by MRT and buses, although accommodation and everyday expenses can be high. Hospitality work commonly involves rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays. Foreign workers generally need an approved work pass before starting employment; the employer usually applies through Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. The pass type depends on nationality, qualifications, salary and the role, and approval is not guaranteed. Candidates should confirm housing, medical coverage, meals, transport, deductions and contract terms before relocating. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. New arrivals should budget carefully and check official immigration guidance for current requirements.
