Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city and coastal territory, with Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and numerous outlying islands. Hospitality, retail, finance, aviation, logistics, technology, healthcare and education provide strong employment opportunities; tourism and hotel security roles are especially concentrated in Central, Admiralty, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and airport areas. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and beaches, although housing is expensive and space is limited. Overseas employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by an employer, with approval based on qualifications, a genuine vacancy and market-level pay. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, insurance and budgeting before relocating, and verify current immigration requirements with Hong Kong authorities.
