Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. Hospitality offers many opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, beach resorts, bars, events and tourism, with especially strong demand in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture blends Islamic traditions with a highly international population; modest dress and respectful behaviour are important, particularly during Ramadan. Lifestyle can be modern and energetic, though accommodation and transport costs vary considerably. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are pleasant for outdoor activities. Most overseas employees need employer-sponsored residence and work visas; the employer normally arranges medical checks, Emirates ID processing and work authorization. Confirm the written contract, accommodation, transport, insurance, leave and service-charge terms before relocating. Bring authenticated documents where requested and budget for initial expenses until payroll begins.
