Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city and territory with a distinctive mix of Chinese traditions and international influences. Hospitality, retail, finance, logistics, aviation and professional services provide substantial employment, although competition is strong and Cantonese is valuable for many customer-facing roles. Life is fast-paced, convenient and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse food, hiking trails, beaches and vibrant cultural districts. Rents are high, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, so many workers share accommodation or live in the New Territories. Overseas employees normally need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly under the General Employment Policy, and must meet qualification and salary requirements. The employer usually supports the application, but approval is handled by Hong Kong Immigration. Arrange housing, medical coverage, travel documents and proof of qualifications before relocating.
