Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, international city with strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, bars, tourism, finance, retail and events. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, and everyday life is fast-paced, convenient and highly urban. Public transport is excellent, although accommodation can be expensive and space is limited. Employees often enjoy diverse food, lively nightlife, hiking trails, beaches and easy access to nearby islands and mainland China. Foreign nationals normally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer before starting work; the company usually supports the application. Applicants should prepare a valid passport, qualifications, employment records and any required references. Hong Kong’s official languages are Chinese and English, and English is widely used in international hotels. Relocating workers should budget for deposits, transport, healthcare and initial living costs.
