Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, retail, finance, technology and education. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business and hospitality, alongside Cantonese and Mandarin. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, compact urban districts, diverse dining and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Most overseas professionals need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants generally require a confirmed job and relevant qualifications or experience. Employers may assist with documentation, although housing, flights and dependants’ arrangements vary by contract. Rent can be high, especially in central areas, so newcomers often consider Kowloon or the New Territories. Hong Kong’s subtropical climate means hot, humid summers and mild winters.
