Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in legal, finance, hospitality, technology, trade, and regional headquarters roles. Its business culture is fast-paced, international, and relationship-driven, with English widely used in professional settings and Cantonese dominant in daily life; Mandarin is also valuable. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and excellent restaurants to hiking trails, beaches, islands, and efficient public transport. Housing is expensive, particularly near Central, but public transport makes commuting from areas such as Kowloon or the New Territories practical. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored visa, commonly through the General Employment Policy, requiring a confirmed job, suitable qualifications, relevant experience, and a market-level salary. Employers normally assist with sponsorship, while dependants may apply for accompanying visas. Before relocating, candidates should review tax, housing, healthcare, schooling, and employment-termination arrangements.
