Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of hospitality opportunities. Hotels, resorts, restaurants, beach clubs, cruise operations and entertainment venues regularly recruit international staff. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly diverse expatriate population; modest dress and respectful behaviour are important, especially during Ramadan. Lifestyle is modern and convenient, with excellent shopping, dining, beaches, desert activities and public transport, although summers are extremely hot. Most foreign employees need an employer-sponsored residence and work visa; the employer normally arranges medical checks, Emirates ID processing and labour documentation. Confirm contract terms for accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, annual leave and return flights before relocating. Living costs vary considerably, with Dubai generally more expensive than other emirates. Bring certified qualifications where required and ensure your passport has sufficient validity.
