Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a highly connected coastal city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with numerous outlying islands. Hospitality, retail, finance, aviation, technology, logistics and professional services provide major employment opportunities. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and Cantonese, English and Mandarin are widely encountered. Life is fast-paced, convenient and urban, with excellent public transport, varied food, hiking trails, beaches and busy shopping districts. Rent can be high, especially near central areas, so many workers share accommodation or live farther from hotel districts. Foreign nationals generally need a valid employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, qualifications and the role. Relocating workers should arrange a written contract, passport validity, accommodation, medical coverage and a budget for deposits and living costs. Hong Kong also offers strong public transport and a diverse expatriate community.
