Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact coastal city and territory made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and many international communities. Hospitality opportunities are available in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, catering companies and resorts, particularly for chefs, kitchen assistants, servers and supervisors. The culture combines Cantonese traditions with strong international influences; dining, festivals and efficient city life are central to daily living. Rent can be high, but public transport is reliable and staff accommodation or meal benefits may be available through employers. Overseas workers generally need an approved employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer before starting work. The employer normally provides the contract and supporting documents, while applicants supply qualifications, identity documents and experience records. Relocating candidates should budget for deposits, transport and initial living costs.
