Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected destination offering opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, retail, finance, technology and tourism. Its hospitality sector is international and fast-paced, with demand for skilled chefs familiar with regional and global cuisines. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hotels and professional workplaces. Life combines dense urban neighborhoods, excellent public transport, shopping and dining with beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Housing can be expensive, so accommodation or staff housing is valuable when offered. Most overseas employees require an employment visa arranged by the sponsoring company; applicants generally need a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience, and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Bring certified documents and allow time for processing. New arrivals should budget carefully, obtain an Octopus travel card, and check tax, insurance and labor-contract terms before relocating.
