Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in banking, tourism, technology, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and education. Sandakan, on Sabah’s island of Borneo, has a slower pace than Kuala Lumpur and is known for wildlife, coastal scenery, seafood, and multicultural communities. Daily life is generally affordable, although housing and imported goods can cost more than in some mainland cities. Malay is the national language, while English, Mandarin, and local languages are widely used in business and daily communication. Malaysia has a diverse Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, and Hindu culture, with many public holidays and regional traditions. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for an employment pass, while Malaysians can relocate freely within the country. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, banking, healthcare coverage, transport, and local registration. Sandakan has essential services, but major specialist healthcare, shopping, and international connections may require travel to Kota Kinabalu or Kuala Lumpur.
