Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in banking, technology, tourism, education, healthcare, manufacturing, and shared services. Kota Kinabalu, on the island of Borneo, has a relaxed coastal lifestyle, lower living costs than Kuala Lumpur, strong tourism activity, and access to beaches, islands, and Mount Kinabalu. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international communities; English is widely used in business, while Malay is the national language. Major cities provide shopping, food, public transport, and modern amenities, although Borneo locations may require more driving. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer, with approval before starting work. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, transport, healthcare, and work-permit administration. Local banking experience, customer-service skills, and language ability can improve employment prospects.
