Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong career opportunities in technology, logistics, shared services, finance, engineering and regional operations, particularly around Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. Its culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, while food, public transport, healthcare and weekend travel are attractive. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and Perhentian, each offering beaches, heritage or outdoor activities. Foreign professionals normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; the company usually manages the application and approval process. Relocating employees should budget for housing deposits, insurance, schooling if relevant and initial settling-in costs. Kuala Lumpur is the most practical base for regional corporate roles, with international schools, airports and extensive expatriate services.
