Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in IT, shared services, logistics, e-commerce, finance, manufacturing and digital marketing, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. The country is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in its languages, food and festivals. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or many Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular island destinations can be more expensive. Malaysia’s islands, including Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah, provide beaches, outdoor activities and a relaxed pace, while major cities offer modern amenities and international communities. Foreign professionals usually need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the employer normally handles the application. Check current immigration rules before relocating. English is widely used in business, but learning basic Malay is useful. Healthcare, schools and housing options vary by location, so research the area before accepting an offer.
