Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities for occupational therapists, especially in hospitals, rehabilitation, disability services, aged care, community health, and private practice. Gold Coast provides a relaxed coastal lifestyle, warm weather, beaches, outdoor activities, and a growing healthcare sector, although housing costs can be high. Australian workplaces are generally professional, multicultural, and team-oriented, with emphasis on punctuality, clear communication, safety, and work-life balance. Overseas occupational therapists usually need a suitable visa, skills assessment, and registration with AHPRA; overseas-qualified practitioners may also require assessment through the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia. Common visa pathways include employer-sponsored visas, skilled migration, and working holiday options where eligible. Before relocating, research registration requirements, salary packaging, accommodation, transport, health insurance, taxation, and professional indemnity cover. Gold Coast public transport is improving, but a car may be useful for community-based roles.
