Destination Guide

The United Kingdom is an island country made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with varied cities, countryside and coastlines. Job opportunities are strongest in logistics, healthcare, technology, engineering, hospitality, finance, construction and professional services. British culture generally values politeness, punctuality, personal privacy and queuing, while communities are highly diverse. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh to quieter towns and rural areas. Public transport is extensive, although a car may be useful for delivery and logistics work. Living costs vary considerably, with London and southeast England usually the most expensive. Overseas workers must have the legal right to work, normally through settled or pre-settled status, a Skilled Worker visa, another eligible visa or British or Irish citizenship. Employers may not sponsor every driving vacancy, so applicants should check sponsorship eligibility before relocating. Renting, tax, National Insurance and healthcare arrangements should also be researched in advance.
