Job Description

As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) with Royal Mail Group, you will sort, load and deliver letters and parcels safely and efficiently across an allocated route. The role requires a full UK driving licence, good driving skills, physical fitness, reliability and the ability to work outdoors in changing weather. You should be comfortable walking or driving for extended periods, handling mail, using handheld technology and providing polite customer service. Flexibility for early starts, weekends and seasonal demand may be required. Previous delivery or customer-service experience is useful but is not always essential, as training is provided.

Company Info

Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known delivery and logistics organisations. Its principal postal business, Royal Mail, delivers letters and parcels throughout the UK, supported by a nationwide network of delivery offices, processing centres, vehicles and postboxes. The Group also operates GLS, an international parcel delivery business serving customers across Europe and other markets. Royal Mail plays an important role in connecting households, businesses and communities, particularly through its universal postal service. Employees work in operational, delivery, transport, engineering, technology, commercial and corporate roles. The organisation has been modernising its services to respond to changing customer habits, including the growth of e-commerce and parcel deliveries. Working for Royal Mail typically involves a strong focus on safety, reliability, customer service, teamwork and meeting delivery commitments.

Destination Guide

The United Kingdom offers job opportunities in logistics, transport, healthcare, technology, finance, construction, hospitality and professional services. Its culture is diverse and generally values punctuality, privacy, fairness and polite communication. Lifestyle varies from busy cities such as London, Manchester and Edinburgh to quieter coastal and rural communities. Public transport is widely available, although a car may be useful for delivery work outside urban areas. Living costs, especially rent, are highest in London and the South East. Most overseas workers need permission to work before starting employment. A Skilled Worker visa requires an eligible occupation, an approved sponsor and the relevant salary; postal delivery driving roles are generally unlikely to qualify for sponsorship, so applicants usually need another immigration route or existing right to work. Check current requirements with GOV.UK, and budget for housing deposits, transport, healthcare-related costs and local taxes when planning relocation.
