Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, manufacturing, technology, and education. Johor Bahru is on the mainland rather than an island, directly opposite Singapore, and provides a lively, multicultural lifestyle with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and international influences. Residents enjoy diverse food, shopping malls, heritage areas, nature parks, and relatively affordable living compared with Singapore. English is widely used in hospitality, while Malay and Mandarin can be valuable advantages. Foreign workers generally need an approved employment pass or sector-specific work permit sponsored by the employer; requirements depend on nationality, salary, occupation, and immigration rules. Candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, medical checks, accommodation, taxes, and relocation assistance before accepting an offer. Housing and transport vary by area, and commuting between Johor Bahru and Singapore can be demanding during peak periods. International recruits should budget for deposits, insurance, and initial living expenses.
