Destination Guide

Spain’s main island destinations include the Balearic Islands, such as Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, and the Canary Islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. Tourism creates opportunities in hotels, restaurants, events, sales, guest services, wellness, transport, and outdoor activities. Lifestyle varies from lively nightlife and busy summer resorts to quieter coastal communities. Spanish culture centres on family, late dining, local festivals, beaches, and relaxed socialising, while each island has distinct traditions and cuisine. Seasonal work is common, especially from spring through autumn in the Balearics; the Canaries have a longer tourism season. EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens generally need only registration and a work contract. Non-EU applicants require an appropriate visa or work authorisation, often arranged with an employer. Relocating involves finding accommodation, obtaining a Spanish tax and social-security number, arranging healthcare, and budgeting for higher rents in popular resort areas. W Barcelona itself is on the mainland, not the Spanish islands.
