Destination Guide

Japan offers extensive opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, education, and skilled professional services. Sapporo, on Hokkaido, is known for snowy winters, outdoor activities, seafood, festivals, and a relaxed urban lifestyle, although winter transport and heating costs require preparation. Japanese workplace culture generally values punctuality, respect, teamwork, hierarchy, and careful attention to detail. Living costs are often lower than in Tokyo, but housing, utilities, and commuting should be budgeted carefully. Foreign workers usually need an appropriate work visa sponsored by an employer; hospitality roles may require a specified skilled worker status or another eligible employment category, depending on duties and qualifications. Applicants should verify requirements with Japan’s immigration authorities and the Japanese embassy. Relocation typically involves securing a residence card, registered address, health insurance, pension enrollment, and a Japanese bank account.
