Destination Guide

Labuan Bajo is a coastal town on Flores Island and a major base for visiting Komodo National Park. Employment is concentrated in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tour operations, marine activities, transport, construction, and local services, with tourism creating the strongest opportunities for skilled hospitality workers. The culture blends Catholic Flores traditions with diverse Indonesian influences, and community relationships, modest dress, and respectful behavior are valued. Lifestyle is relaxed and outdoors-focused, with beaches, islands, diving, hiking, and spectacular sunsets, but shopping and specialist services are more limited than in Jakarta or Bali. Employees should expect warm weather, a smaller international community, and occasional supply or transport constraints. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate Indonesian work and stay visas; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation packages, accommodation, meals, flights, and insurance should be confirmed directly with the employer.
