Destination Guide

Surabaya is on Java, Indonesia’s most populous island and the country’s main business and hospitality hub. Job opportunities are strong in hotels, restaurants, retail, logistics, manufacturing, education and tourism, especially for candidates with English, digital and customer-service skills. Javanese culture values politeness, respect for elders, community and modest behavior, while Surabaya is known for its energetic, practical character. Living costs are generally lower than Bali or Jakarta, with convenient shopping, hospitals, universities and transport links; traffic and hot, humid weather are common. Java offers historic cities, volcanoes, beaches and easy rail connections to other destinations. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate Indonesian work visa, arranged before employment begins; tourist visas do not authorize work. Confirm salary, accommodation, insurance, relocation support and visa responsibility directly with the hotel before accepting an offer.
