Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak, especially in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events and tourism sales. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay is helpful. Lifestyle ranges from busy city living to relaxed island and coastal communities, with generally affordable food and transport compared with many international destinations. Foreign nationals normally need employer sponsorship and an approved Employment Pass before starting work; the employer usually handles much of the application process. Applicants should confirm current immigration rules, salary thresholds and eligibility with Marriott and Malaysian authorities. Setia Alam is a suburban, modern area with access to Shah Alam, Klang and Kuala Lumpur, but relocating employees should budget for housing, transport, insurance and document processing.
