Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the broadest hospitality, tourism, culinary and business opportunities. The country has a highly international culture, modern infrastructure, desert landscapes, beaches, shopping, entertainment and a strong dining scene. Dubai is fast-paced and cosmopolitan, while Abu Dhabi is generally quieter and more spacious. Most expatriate jobs are arranged with employer sponsorship. The company normally handles the employment entry permit, medical examination, Emirates ID and residence visa; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Relocation packages vary and may include accommodation, transport, flights, insurance and meals. Living costs, especially rent, can be high, so applicants should clarify housing, service charge, working hours, leave and end-of-service benefits before accepting. English is widely used in hotels, although Arabic knowledge is useful.
