Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers a coastal lifestyle with beaches, waterfront resorts and modern city living. Hospitality, engineering, construction, retail, aviation, logistics, healthcare and technology provide substantial employment opportunities, especially in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly international workforce; respectful dress and conduct are important. Lifestyle options range from shopping malls and restaurants to desert trips, water sports and cultural attractions. Most foreign workers need an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit. Employers commonly arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and sometimes accommodation or transport. Before relocating, confirm salary, benefits, housing, insurance, probation terms and visa sponsorship in writing. Sharjah is generally quieter and more family-oriented than Dubai, while commuting between the emirates can be lengthy. Costs vary considerably, particularly for housing and transport.
