Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest range of hospitality, retail, aviation, tourism and service-sector jobs. The country has a modern, international lifestyle, excellent shopping, beaches, restaurants and public transport, while its culture is shaped by Islamic traditions, family values and diverse expatriate communities. English is widely used in hotels and business, although Arabic is the official language. Employers normally sponsor work visas, medical testing, Emirates ID processing and residency permits after hiring; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, flights, working hours and gratuity in the contract. Dubai is generally safe and convenient, but housing and leisure costs can be high. Respect local laws, dress appropriately in formal and religious settings, and expect hot summers.
