Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, engineering, healthcare, education and technology. For this role, Miri is on Borneo in Sarawak, a relaxed city known for coastal scenery, national parks, caves and access to rainforest destinations. Life is generally more affordable than in Kuala Lumpur, with a multicultural community, Malay, Chinese and indigenous influences, warm weather and a slower pace. English is widely used in hospitality, while Malay is the national language. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the employer usually handles approval and immigration procedures before work begins. Candidates should confirm passport validity, medical requirements, taxation, accommodation and dependent visas. Miri has shopping centres, hospitals, schools, restaurants and an airport, although international connections may involve transit through Kuala Lumpur. Sarawak’s culture and outdoor lifestyle can be a strong attraction for hospitality professionals.
