Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Melaka and resort islands such as Tioman and Perhentian. Hotels, restaurants, resorts, cruise services and tourism businesses regularly recruit service staff, chefs, housekeeping teams and supervisors. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences; politeness, modest presentation and respect for religious customs are important. Kuala Lumpur provides urban convenience, public transport and varied dining, while island locations offer a slower outdoor lifestyle but may have higher living costs or fewer services. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work permit before starting employment. Requirements vary by nationality and job, so confirm current rules with the employer and Malaysian immigration authorities. Relocation costs, accommodation, medical checks and permit fees should be clarified in the offer. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay or Mandarin can improve prospects.
